I finished Mistress of Mistresses last night. It wasn’t very good, and it took me a long time to finish for that reason.
I don’t usually do this, but I’ve decided not to read the other 2 books in the series. I just don’t feel like slogging through 800 more pages of this crap:
‘O no nice excuses,’ she said. ‘I and Campaspe are not womankind. Truly, ’tis but at Her bidding we durst not disobey we thus have dallied with such as you, my lord.’
His mustachios stirred.
It’s like reading the script to “Lords & Ladies” from Max Payne.
Now I’m reading Lucifer’s Hammer by Larry Niven. It’s a very nice change of pace.
I don’t think I would have made it through the back cover. You sure Fabio isn’t on the cover clasping some nubile lass?
Is that for real? Jesus Christ. Mustachios? I’ve always hated thatword. Sounds like the world’s worst breakfast cereal.
The bigger problem for me, apart from the obscure vocabulary, was the unreasonably complicated grammar. That sentence is just saying “We’re not intrested, we’re only here because she told us to keep you company.”, but it took me many minutes of puxxling to figure that out. When you multiple that by 400 pages, I ended up just skimming much of book, and as a result, had no idea what was going on at any time.
