Do I have a second?

Yay, I got a microwave.

My place of employment recently (a few months ago, at least) moved offices. In the old office, there had not been a microwave, and so one of the employees bought one and put it in the kitchen there. The new office had a microwave built-in, and so when he brought his microwave from the old office to the new office, there was no place to put it. So he put it on his desk. And there it sat. For months.

It wasn’t plugged in or anything, and he didn’t use it to like heat up TV dinners while he was working or anything. It just sat there, unused. So today I offered him $20 for it. And he said yes. (Actually first I offered him $10, and he said no.) So now I have a microwave. It’s actually kind of gigantic. I may have to get a place for it to sit on, because it’s overly dominating my counter right now. But, it seems to work, and it has a clock on it and everything. It’s all very exciting.

Of course the main problem is that I don’t have any food that you can microwave. And since I’ve been without a microwave oven for something like 3 years now, I don’t even really remember what there is to microwave. In fact, even though I’ve been really wanting one for quite a while, now that I have one, I don’t have the slightest idea what to do with it. I’m going to be stopping by the grocery store tomorrow, so does anybody have any suggestions? Right now the only thing I can think of are hot dogs, and somebody has suggested “Hot Pockets” although I don’t know what that is. Suggestions welcome.

So I moved into my new place.

I guess I actually forgot to mention that.

But yeah, it’s nice. It’s big and I have it basically all set up now. In fact, the only things I don’t have now are the things that I didn’t have in my old place either, but now I actually have a place to put them, so their missingness is much more pronounced than it was. The main things I’m missing right now are: A kettle, a microwave, a workbench and a place to keep my pots & pans. I would just go out and buy these things, but since the move, money is pretty tight. In fact, I meant to reward myself for getting my place all set up by buying myself one of these, but I didn’t even do that. I should have more money next month, as I get more and more credit card bills paid off, but it’s kind of a pain right now. I actually had to heat water for tea in a small pot. Which had been sitting on the floor.

Actually, the main thing I really want for this new place, that I can’t find anywhere, are curtains. The new place has a lot more windows than my old place does, so I need to get a few more curtains to finish covering the leftover windows. However, it’s incredibly difficult for me to find the kind of curtains that I want. I remember it being difficult when I moved into my old place, but somehow I managed to find them then. This time, though, I can’t find them anywhere.

All I want are plain black square curtains. I don’t want lace, valances, ruffles, tab-tops, velvet or sheer. Just regular plain black curtains. As far as I can tell, they don’t exist. Does anybody know where I can get some? Actually, I know a few people who read this know how to sew — if anybody would be willing to make me some curtains, I would be more than happy to pay all costs, plus whatever you think is fair for your time. I don’t really know what’s involved in making curtains, but I would assume it’s just a matter of doing a few hems and making a lil’ pocket for the curtain rod.

That’s about it though.
